About Release

Z.ZEE – Save The Child In You Z.ZEE opens the Love Reaction catalogue with Save The Child In You, a four-track 12-inch that approaches house music through live instrumentation, Latin rhythms, jazz phrasing and the warm harmonic language of Rhodes piano. Released as LR-ROOTS001, the record is rooted in the physicality of house music while drawing much of its character from bongos, tablas and live musicianship. The result is an unusually organic debut: rhythmic, soulful and detailed without losing the functional qualities of a club record. More Of It establishes the EP's musical vocabulary immediately. Rather than building its groove around heavily programmed percussion alone, Z.ZEE incorporates hand-played rhythmic elements into the house framework, giving the track a distinctly human sense of movement. Bongos and tablas become part of the rhythmic architecture, while the harmonic material keeps the mood warm and open. This emphasis on live percussion is central to Z.ZEE's approach on Save The Child In You. Love Reaction describes the artist as orchestrating, composing and playing both bongos and tablas, with several musicians contributing live performances to the project. The combination gives the record additional rhythmic depth and a sense of interaction between the electronic and acoustic elements. One Special Day continues along the same path, placing melodic detail and groove on equal footing. Rhodes-style harmonies provide much of the track's warmth, while the percussion gives the arrangement a loose, jazz-informed swing. Rather than pushing toward a conventional peak-time structure, Z.ZEE allows the groove to develop naturally, making the track particularly suited to deeper house sets where texture and musicality are more important than sheer impact. The B-side begins with Brazil Meets India In Martillo, the most distinctive meeting of rhythmic influences on the record. Its title reflects the track's conceptual combination of Brazilian and Indian references, while the percussion-driven arrangement places those influences inside a contemporary house framework. The track was also picked up by NTS, where it was played by Yu Su on The NTS Breakfast Show in September 2021, providing an independent indication of the track's circulation beyond the immediate Love Reaction catalogue. Rhythm is again the central focus. Instead of treating bongos and tablas as decorative additions, Z.ZEE uses them as active components of the groove. This creates a more fluid rhythmic profile, where the percussion can interact with the house pulse rather than simply reinforcing it. Fleur d'Oranger closes the EP on a softer, more atmospheric note. The warm harmonic character established across the record remains intact, with jazz-influenced phrasing and organic percussion giving the track a relaxed quality. It completes an EP whose identity is defined less by dramatic changes in arrangement than by the relationship between rhythm, melody and live performance. Save The Child In You was the inaugural release from Love Reaction, a label and collective whose musical identity was closely connected to the people around it. The label's own description positions Z.ZEE as a cornerstone of its family, while the record's production reflects that communal approach through the involvement of several musicians alongside the producer. That sense of collaboration is one of the release's defining strengths. The record does not attempt to imitate the sound of a live band within an electronic production; instead, the acoustic and electronic components coexist. Rhodes melodies provide harmonic colour, hand percussion supplies movement, and the house framework keeps the music connected to the dancefloor. The four tracks also share a remarkably consistent tonal character. There is warmth throughout the EP, but it is not soft or overly polished. The percussion gives the productions physical definition, while the jazz and Latin influences introduce harmonic and rhythmic variation without pulling the music away from its house foundation. For DJs and collectors, LR-ROOTS001 represents a particular strand of contemporary house music that places musicianship and groove at the centre. More Of It and One Special Day establish the EP's warm house language, Brazil Meets India In Martillo pushes the rhythmic concept further, and Fleur d'Oranger provides a gentle closing statement. Originally released in September 2021 and manufactured by Mother Tongue, the record was limited to 150 copies. The first 50 orders from Love Reaction were also accompanied by a risograph print of the artwork, underlining the small-scale, physical character of the project. Save The Child In You remains a concise statement of Z.ZEE's musical identity: house music built around groove, live percussion, jazz-inflected harmony and the warmth of physical performance. On LR-ROOTS001, Love Reaction began its catalogue with a record that looks back toward the roots of house while giving those foundations a distinctly organic and Latin-inflected character.
