VARIOUS ARTISTS — Agora Wax 02

Various Artists – Agora Wax 02 opens the second instalment of Agora Records’ annual vinyl series, catalogued as AGW02, on 12-inch vinyl. The compilation gathers five forward-looking techno tracks that delve into the darker, driving side of contemporary club music, positioning the release as a practical tool for DJs and selectors seeking fresh, uncompromising material. Within the Agora Records catalogue, Agora Wax 02 follows the debut compilation Agora Wax (AGW01) issued in 2025. The series therefore continues the label’s commitment to curating a concise selection of club-ready productions, each release acting as a snapshot of the label’s evolving aesthetic. Side A begins with “Entropy”, a track that immediately establishes a hypnotic groove, its repetitive pulse setting a tense atmosphere that works well for early-set building. The second cut, “I Need A Hero”, picks up the momentum, offering a raw industrial texture that pushes the energy forward while maintaining the series’ darker tone. Closing side A, “Kunst”, provides a subtle shift, its more measured rhythm creating a brief respite before the record flips, allowing DJs to transition smoothly into the second half of a set. Side B opens with “Zakamdo”, a high-energy piece that delivers a dancefloor-focused rhythm, ideal for peak-time moments where drive and intensity are required. The final track, “TOOL 1”, caps the compilation with a relentless, driving structure that reinforces the record’s overall commitment to uncompromising techno, giving selectors a powerful closing statement for a set. Agora Wax 02 situates itself as a continuation of the label’s curated approach, extending the narrative begun with AGW01 while showcasing a fresh roster of contributors—Sicion, Lacchesi, Schwefelgelb, AK1 and MRD—each delivering a distinct yet cohesive vision of modern techno. The compilation reflects the current underground trend toward darker, more industrial-tinged club sounds, offering a snapshot of the direction in which the scene is moving. For DJs, the record offers a compact toolbox: the three A-side cuts provide versatile building blocks for warm-up or mid-set sections, while the two B-side selections deliver the kinetic energy needed for peak moments. Collectors will appreciate the concise format and the series’ reputation for delivering tracks that are both club-ready and forward-thinking, making the vinyl a valuable addition to any techno-focused crate. The release arrives as a 12-inch vinyl, matching the format of its predecessor and preserving the tactile experience that underpins the Agora Wax series. Its physical presence reinforces the label’s dedication to the vinyl medium as a primary vehicle for DJ-centric releases.
