SGT SLICK — Slick Cuts Vol 9

Sgt Slick – Slick Cuts Vol 9 arrives on Sgt Slick Records as catalogue SSRV009, a 12-inch vinyl that continues the label’s focus on disco-infused edits. Issued on 4 December 2026, the EP taps the Melbourne Edit master’s vault, offering fresh, club-ready reinterpretations of well-known dancefloor staples for the party season. Within the Sgt Slick Records catalogue, Slick Cuts Vol 9 follows a steady line of volume releases that began with ReCuts Vol. 1 (SSRV001, 2024) and progressed through Vol 2 (SSRV002, 2024), Vol 3 (SSRV003, 2024), Vol 4 (SSRV004, 2025), Vol 5 (SSRV005, 2025), Vol 6 (SSRV006, 2025) and Vol 7 (SSRV007, 2026). The sequence demonstrates a consistent commitment to re-editing classic disco material, and this ninth instalment reinforces that aesthetic without breaking the established formula. Side A opens with “Night Queen”, a title that suggests a nocturnal glamour that sits comfortably alongside the second cut, “Video Life”. The two tracks share a polished disco sheen, each delivering a succinct, dancefloor-ready edit that bridges the high-energy vibe of the opener with the slightly more playful tone of the follow-up. On side B, “Love Hang” and “Trubble” close the record. The former maintains the melodic drive introduced earlier, while “Trubble” adds a touch of rhythmic tension that resolves the EP’s flow, offering DJs a tidy, four-track package that can be mixed in succession or used as stand-alone moments. Sgt Slick’s ongoing series of “Vol” releases has become a reference point for collectors seeking concise, well-crafted disco edits. Slick Cuts Vol 9, positioned after Vol 7, shows the producer’s continued ability to mine the past for fresh club material, reinforcing the label’s reputation for quality re-edits. In the broader underground scene, the EP’s focus on concise, groove-centric edits aligns with current preferences for vinyl-friendly, DJ-oriented releases that prioritize instant impact over extended arrangements. For DJs, the four tracks provide immediate utility: “Night Queen” works as an opener or peak-time boost, “Video Life” offers a lighter, transitional mood, “Love Hang” can sustain momentum, and “Trubble” supplies a subtle climax or a closing statement. Collectors will appreciate the consistency of the series and the clear, purposeful sequencing that makes the record a practical addition to any disco-oriented crate. The release is pressed as a standard 12-inch vinyl, matching the format of the previous volumes in the series. Its straightforward presentation underscores the focus on the music itself, without additional embellishments.
