Paperkraft – Elfin Delight
Physical Education – PE020
12-inch Vinyl
Paperkraft presents Elfin Delight, a four-track EP for Physical Education that brings together progressive house, trance, acid-tinged textures and funky vocal elements. The record captures the Osaka-based producer’s distinctive approach to contemporary club music: hypnotic grooves, melodic synth work and rhythmic detail are combined without sacrificing the direct physicality of a 12-inch dancefloor record.
The EP opens with “33 Ways To Do It”, an energetic introduction built around a fast-moving club groove and melodic electronic layers. At around 137 BPM, it establishes the record’s more driving side immediately. The combination of progressive movement, trance-influenced synthesis and vocal touches gives the track a distinctly contemporary feel while maintaining the extended, DJ-friendly character expected from the format.
“Score The Highest” follows at a slightly slower 133 BPM and shifts the emphasis towards a more rolling groove. Funky vocal samples and melodic elements remain central to Paperkraft’s sound, while the rhythmic framework keeps the track firmly aimed at the dancefloor. The transition from A1 to A2 gives the first side a natural progression rather than simply repeating the same formula.
The title track, “Elfin Delight”, opens the B-side at approximately 130 BPM. Here Paperkraft brings the progressive and trance components of the EP into a more hypnotic balance, using the slower tempo to create additional space around the groove. The track’s melodic character is expressive without becoming overly elaborate, allowing the rhythmic foundation and electronic textures to remain the focus.
“Cosmosquare” completes the record with another energetic club cut, closing the EP on a dynamic note. Its placement as the final track reinforces the record’s overall structure: four productions that move through different shades of progressive, trance and house while retaining a consistent rhythmic identity.
Across Elfin Delight, Paperkraft avoids strict genre boundaries. Progressive house provides much of the structural foundation, trance supplies the melodic and atmospheric dimension, while acid and funky vocal elements add character to the productions. The result is a record that can sit comfortably between contemporary progressive house and more driving trance-oriented sets.
Paperkraft is based in Osaka, Japan, and the release follows his earlier appearance on Truly Madly’s Mindhelmet label. Physical Education presents Elfin Delight as a fresh development of his hypnotic, dancefloor-focused sound, and PE020 remains a concise example of the label’s interest in the intersection of house, trance and forward-looking club music.
