ARNO E. MATHIEU — Morodena Mare / Vita Mare

Arno E. Mathieu – Morodena Mare / Vita Mare opens the Musiq Voyage MV004 12-inch vinyl with a clear sense of place, channeling a Mediterranean horizon in motion. The EP blends deep house and Balearic sensibilities, pairing electronic disco grooves with organic guitar, atmospheric synths, mystic chants and driving percussion. Built for movement yet rooted in warm, sun-lit coastlines, the record invites listeners to drift from shoreline to distant horizon. Within Musiq Voyage’s recent output, MV004 arrives alongside Torre’s “Phocaea Vol.2” (MV003), released on the same day, reinforcing the label’s focus on sun-drenched, expansive dance music. The pairing of these two releases highlights a moment where the catalogue leans into Balearic narratives, each offering a distinct yet complementary perspective on the Mediterranean soundscape. Side A begins with “Morodena Mare”, a track that immediately establishes the EP’s blend of disco-inflected house and Balearic atmosphere. The composition balances hypnotic bass with spacious electronic textures, creating a groove that feels both earthy and cosmic. Its companion, “Morodeana Mare (Arno Contemplation version)”, revisits the same thematic material with a more introspective tilt, allowing the percussive rhythms to breathe while retaining the original’s sense of movement. Side B continues the journey with “Vita Mare”, which mirrors the A-side’s duality. The primary mix delivers a rhythmic pulse anchored by the same organic guitar lines and percussive drive that define the record’s aesthetic, while the “Vita Mare (Arno Contemplation version)” offers a subtler, more contemplative take, emphasizing the track’s atmospheric depth and its capacity to linger on the dancefloor. These four cuts together form a cohesive landscape painting in sound, each version serving as a different view of the same horizon. The EP’s structure—original followed by a contemplative reinterpretation on both sides—provides DJs with flexible tools: the full-bodied mixes work well for peak-time energy, whereas the contemplative versions suit more nuanced, late-night moments where space and mood dominate. Arno E. Mathieu’s recent discography on Musiq Voyage includes the 2025 EP “Phoenix / L’Amoragie” (MV02), which also explored Balearic textures, and the earlier “Contemplation Rmx 2x12\"” on Compost Records (CPT608-1, 2024) that introduced a reflective, remix-oriented approach. The current release extends that trajectory, deepening the artist’s practice of turning dance music into a form of landscape painting, a concept also hinted at through collaborations with figures such as Joe Claussell, I:Cube and Beanfield. In the broader context of contemporary underground electronic music, Morodena Mare / Vita Mare stands as a refined example of how deep house can intersect with Balearic and disco influences without sacrificing dancefloor potency. Its emphasis on melodic guitar, spacious synths and driving percussion aligns with a growing interest in organic-electronic hybrids that evoke specific geographies while remaining club-ready. For collectors, the 12-inch format offers a tactile experience that complements the music’s emphasis on texture and space. DJs will appreciate the clear separation between the main mixes and their contemplative counterparts, enabling seamless transitions between energetic peaks and more atmospheric passages. The record’s warm, Mediterranean palette makes it a fitting addition to sets that aim to evoke sunrise on a seaside terrace or the lingering glow of a sunset after a night of dancing. The release is a 12-inch vinyl issued by Musiq Voyage, catalogue MV004, comprising four tracks that together map an endless seascape of sound. Tracklist: A1. Arno E. Mathieu – Morodena Mare A2.
