About Release

Archie Hamilton – Friends In Low Places sees one of the UK's most established underground house and tech house producers return to a rawer, more stripped-back side of his sound. Released on Risk/Reward as catalogue number RISK004, the four-track 12-inch vinyl EP reconnects with the rolling grooves, acid pressure and uncompromising dancefloor energy that have defined Hamilton's productions throughout his career. The record opens with “NyLon”, a track that brings together dreamy 90s Italo influences and the rugged swing of classic UK tech house. Intricate synthesizer melodies, chopped vocal elements and expansive pads sit above crunchy, swinging drums, creating a distinctive tension between nostalgic atmosphere and contemporary club functionality. “No Signal” pushes the EP into more intense territory. Built around a rolling 303 bassline, complex acid patterns, haunting sirens and gritty percussion, the track delivers the kind of relentless energy associated with Hamilton's most effective peak-time productions. The combination of trance-inflected movement and acid-driven tech house gives it an unmistakably physical character on the dancefloor. On the B-side, “Higher” returns to a more hypnotic groove. Punchy, detailed drums lock into a deep bassline while melodic hooks gradually emerge around a familiar vocal presence. The arrangement remains focused on movement, allowing the track to build its atmosphere through repetition, subtle changes and carefully placed details rather than unnecessary complexity. The final track, “Higher (Gideon Jackson Bump Mix)”, brings another UK tech house heavyweight into the equation. Gideon Jackson, a producer closely associated with the early development of the sound, reworks the track with significantly increased weight and pressure. The remix retains the identity of the original while pushing its drums, bass and overall impact towards a tougher, more uncompromising club aesthetic. What makes Friends In Low Places particularly interesting is its deliberate return to the underground. Rather than following a polished, crossover-oriented formula, Archie Hamilton focuses on the fundamentals: bass pressure, swinging drums, acid movement, hypnotic repetition and the subtle tension that makes functional tech house work on a serious sound system. The EP also reflects the continuing relevance of the sound that helped establish Hamilton more than a decade ago. Friends In Low Places feels rooted in the classic UK tech house tradition while remaining sufficiently contemporary for today's dancefloor, making it a natural fit for DJs looking for muscular, groove-led vinyl with genuine underground character. For collectors and DJs, Archie Hamilton – Friends In Low Places RISK004 offers four distinct tools: the Italo-tinged groove of “NyLon”, the acid-heavy intensity of “No Signal”, the deeper rolling drive of “Higher”, and Gideon Jackson's heavyweight interpretation on the B-side. Friends In Low Places is the fourth release on Risk/Reward, catalogue RISK004, released as a 12-inch vinyl EP with four tracks. The record is scheduled for 9 October 2026 and is classified as Tech House.
