VIIKATORY — Virtual Oomms EP

Viikatory – Virtual Oomms EP arrives on Fantastic Planet as catalogue FAN011, an exclusive vinyl release that navigates the crossroads of tech house, acid house and techno house. The six-track EP, billed as a solo statement from the Tresor resident, balances driving electro thrust with acidic tension and moments of trance-like uplift, offering a compact yet varied journey for the dancefloor. Fantastic Planet’s recent output has been marked by a series of forward-looking releases, from Newa’s “Singularity EP” (FAN010) to Batenko’s “Body Free” (FAN009) and the label’s earlier “Routes EP” by Hamatsuki (FAN002). Within this context, Viikatory’s entry continues the label’s focus on kinetic, synth-driven club music while adding a personal, high-energy voice to the roster. Side A opens with “Get Some”, a track that establishes a propulsive rhythm and sets a tone of relentless momentum. It segues into “Intension”, which deepens the groove while maintaining the same kinetic drive, creating a subtle shift in intensity that prepares the listener for the closing A-side cut. “Aye Poppi” rounds out the side with a slightly more melodic contour, yet it retains the hypnotic repetition that underpins the EP’s aesthetic. The B-side begins with the title track “Virtual Comms”, a centerpiece that amplifies the EP’s acid and trance influences, delivering a heightened sense of pressure suitable for peak-time moments. “Tactics” follows, offering a tighter, more focused arrangement that can serve as a bridge between the high-energy opener and the final cut. The record closes with “PLS Call Later”, a track that eases the tension while preserving the driving pulse, making it an effective wind-down or late-night transition. Viikatory’s recent discography includes the “Into The Unknown” LP on Unknown To The Unknown (UTTU195, 2026), the “Modulation Depth” 12-inch on Source Material (SM012, 2024), the “Alt Frequency EP” on A7A (A7A006, 2024) and the “Voyager-1 w/ LUZ1E & Poly Chain Remixes” on Mechatronica Music (MTRON038, 2024). These releases demonstrate a consistent exploration of synth-centric, rhythm-focused production, a thread that is clearly evident on the Virtual Oomms EP and situates it as a logical continuation of Viikatory’s evolving sound palette. For DJs, the EP offers a toolbox of tracks that can be deployed at different points in a set. “Get Some” and “Virtual Comms” provide the kinetic thrust needed for opening or peak moments, while “Intension” and “Tactics” work well as transitional pieces. The melodic undercurrents of “Aye Poppi” and the smoother finish of “PLS Call Later” give the record a versatile range that can accommodate both high-energy peaks and more nuanced, late-hour moods. The record is pressed as an exclusive 12-inch vinyl, reflecting the label’s commitment to the analog format. Its six tracks are arranged to maximise the flow of energy across both sides, offering a tactile experience that complements its digital counterpart.
