About Release
Smoove – Vol 5
Multitrack Re-Works presents its MT series with MT005, a 12-inch vinyl that digs into disco and funky house territory through a multitrack reinterpretation of classic material. The release spotlights Marvin Gaye and Double Exposure as they are reshaped by Smoove’s deft production, delivering extended drum build-ups and vocal breakdowns that feel lifted straight from the original tapes.
Within the MT catalogue, Vol 5 arrives before a string of later entries: Multitrack Reworks Volume 10 (MT010, 2025) and a succession of Smoove-led volumes 12 through 15 slated for 2026. This positions the record as an early chapter in a series that will increasingly explore archival sources through contemporary house lenses.
Side A opens with “Everyman”. The track uses the multitrack foundation to construct a gradual percussive swell, giving DJs a flexible intro that can be layered into warm-up sets or used to build tension before a peak. Its structure invites mixing into longer grooves, while the vocal snippets retain a soulful edge that nods to the original source.
Flipping to Side B, “Want” continues the narrative with a similarly expansive drum progression, but leans into a more pronounced vocal breakdown. The arrangement offers a clear release point, making it suitable for transition into deeper house moments or for looping in a late-night set where the groove needs to breathe.
For Smoove, Vol 5 sits between earlier multitrack experiments and a forthcoming wave of releases on the same label, including Volume 12 (MT012) and Volume 13 (MT013) slated for 2026. The continuity of the series underscores Smoove’s ongoing commitment to re-imagining archival recordings for the dancefloor, while maintaining a consistent aesthetic of funk-laden house.
In the current underground scene, where DJs prize both nostalgia and fresh reinterpretation, this record offers a rare blend: the authenticity of original multitrack tapes coupled with modern house sensibility. Its two extended cuts provide ample room for creative mixing, whether used as a centerpiece in a funk-driven set or as a subtle texture in a more progressive flow.
From a collector’s perspective, the 12-inch format preserves the depth of the multitrack source material, and the pressing aligns with the label’s “Warehouse Find!” branding, signalling a release that emerged from deep archives rather than a mainstream push. The record’s focus on extended structures makes it a valuable addition for DJs who value long, evolving grooves that can be manipulated live.
The release is a 12-inch vinyl, presented in the standard format without additional embellishments, allowing the music to speak for itself through the analog medium.
