About Release

Revivis – Energy Ghosts EP Berlin-based producer Revivis returns to his Santo Tomas label with Energy Ghosts, the third catalogue release from the Berlin imprint and a tightly focused four-track EP built around stripped-back percussion, rolling low-end and the physical energy of early-2000s and 2010s tech house. Released as ST003, the record pairs three original productions with a remix from Running Hot. Across the four tracks, Revivis keeps the arrangements economical and rhythmically focused, using repetition, bass pressure and subtle changes in percussion to create movement rather than relying on oversized breakdowns or excessive layering. Santo Tomas describes the EP as a peak-time record, while the production remains sufficiently controlled to work within longer, groove-led DJ sets. Hold Your Head opens the record with a stripped-back rhythmic framework and a strong emphasis on groove. The production draws on the directness of classic tech house while retaining a contemporary level of clarity and control. The percussion provides the forward motion, with the low frequencies supplying the track's physical centre of gravity. Rather than filling every available space, Revivis allows the individual rhythmic components to remain clearly defined. This gives the track a functional quality that is particularly effective in a club environment, where subtle changes in groove can have as much impact as more obvious arrangement shifts. Bastet's Call develops the EP's rhythmic language further. The track remains firmly rooted in tech-house territory but introduces a slightly more hypnotic quality through repetition and carefully controlled textural changes. Its strength comes from the balance between a persistent bass-driven pulse and restrained percussion. The track also demonstrates the production philosophy running through Energy Ghosts: Revivis takes familiar house and tech-house vocabulary and removes unnecessary decoration. The result is direct and physical without becoming simplistic. Bastet's Call (Running Hot Remix) turns the same material toward a different club perspective. Berlin-based DJ and producer Running Hot retains the core identity of the original while reworking its rhythmic emphasis for a more focused dancefloor interpretation. The remix provides the EP with its clearest contrast, giving the B-side an additional sense of movement without disrupting the record's overall aesthetic. The release is explicitly presented as three Revivis originals plus a Running Hot remix. The remix is particularly important within the sequence because it demonstrates how much can be achieved through changes in rhythm and arrangement alone. Rather than introducing a completely unrelated sonic palette, Running Hot works inside the same stripped-back framework, making the connection between the two versions immediately apparent. Tank Girl closes the EP and is arguably its most direct statement of dancefloor intent. The track has been premiered through Maslow Unknown, where it was presented as part of the Energy Ghosts release. Its rhythmic construction places the focus firmly on the backbeat, low-end weight and repeated electronic motifs, giving it a classic club-oriented physicality. The four tracks form a coherent sequence. Hold Your Head establishes the stripped-back groove, Bastet's Call develops the hypnotic side of the production, Running Hot's remix shifts the rhythmic perspective, and Tank Girl finishes with a more forceful club statement. Energy Ghosts also reflects the musical direction of Santo Tomas itself. Revivis runs the Berlin label, and the imprint has developed around house and progressive-oriented material, including the Santo Tomas Edits series, which revisits lesser-known house and progressive tracks from the 1990s. That background helps place ST003 within a broader interest in groove-focused electronic music and the lineage of underground house production. The EP's connection to early-2000s and 2010s tech house is therefore not simply a matter of nostalgia. Revivis uses that vocabulary as a structural foundation: punchy drums, repetitive bass movement, economical arrangements and gradual rhythmic development. The production is clean and contemporary, but the emphasis remains on the physical relationship between kick, bass and percussion. For DJs, ST003 offers four closely related but distinct tools. Hold Your Head works as a groove-setting opener, Bastet's Call adds a more hypnotic dimension, the Running Hot remix provides an alternative version for the B-side, and Tank Girl delivers the most direct peak-time pressure. Energy Ghosts ultimately succeeds through restraint. Revivis does not attempt to overload the productions with unnecessary melodic material or elaborate effects. Instead, the EP is built around the fundamentals of club music: rhythm, bass, repetition and gradual movement. With ST003, Santo Tomas presents a focused piece of contemporary tech house that acknowledges the genre's earlier vocabulary while keeping the production firmly in the present. Energy Ghosts is a functional, physical and carefully controlled four-track record designed for DJs who understand that a strong groove does not need excessive decoration.
