About Release
Nick Beringer – Out Of Zone EP
Nick Beringer launches Phonogear with Out Of Zone, the first release on the new sub-label from Phonogramme. The Berlin producer delivers four tightly constructed house cuts that move between deep house, minimal and tech house, with a strong emphasis on rolling basslines, precise percussion and understated melodic detail. The release also features a remix from Janeret, adding another dimension to the record's restrained but highly functional club sound.
Deeper Image opens the EP at 130 BPM with a fluid, groove-led arrangement built around a prominent bassline and finely controlled rhythmic movement. The production is stripped back without feeling sparse, allowing subtle synth details and percussion to develop around the central groove. Rather than relying on dramatic changes, Beringer builds momentum through repetition and small shifts in texture, giving the track the kind of continuous movement that works naturally in a long-form DJ set.
Deeper Image (Janeret Remix) follows with a more spacious interpretation of the original. Janeret retains the fundamental groove while opening the arrangement into a more melodic and atmospheric direction. Lighthouse Records highlights the remix's fluid synthesizer work and aquatic melodic character, while the rhythmic foundation remains firmly rooted in minimal house territory. At 127 BPM, it creates a deeper, more hypnotic alternative to the original.
The remix is particularly effective because it does not attempt to radically reconstruct Deeper Image. Instead, Janeret works with the original's rhythmic identity and changes its perspective, introducing additional space and melodic movement. The result sits comfortably between deep house and the more refined side of the contemporary minimal scene.
Ease Yourself takes the B-side into a slightly more driving territory. At 130 BPM, the track is built around a tightly locked rhythm section and a focused low-end, with the arrangement remaining economical and DJ-friendly. Beringer's production approach is consistent throughout the EP: each element has a clear role, and the groove remains the central point of reference.
Move Ya closes the record at 127 BPM, bringing the EP toward a more relaxed but still purposeful finish. The track maintains the stripped-back character of the preceding cuts while allowing the rhythmic elements to breathe. Its measured pace and understated construction make it particularly suited to deeper sections of a house or minimal set. The complete four-track sequence and BPM information are confirmed by decks.de and Volumo.
Out Of Zone is also significant as the first release on Phonogear, the new sub-label associated with Phonogramme. The label's debut establishes a clear aesthetic from the outset: contemporary underground house music focused on groove, subtle production detail and functionality rather than excessive arrangement. Phonogear would subsequently continue with releases from Gunnter and Janeret & Halo Varga.
For Nick Beringer, the record continues a production approach that has become closely associated with the Berlin underground. His catalogue includes releases for labels such as Infuse, Yoyaku-related imprints and other minimal and house platforms, while his Bandcamp profile identifies him as a Berlin-based producer, DJ and label owner of Rubisco and Equal Audio.
The strength of Out Of Zone lies in its consistency. None of the four tracks depends on oversized breakdowns or obvious peak-time gestures. Instead, Beringer works with bass pressure, swing, repetition and carefully placed electronic details. Janeret's remix expands this vocabulary with a more melodic and atmospheric treatment, giving the EP a useful contrast without breaking its overall cohesion.
As the first Phonogear release, PHONOGEAR01 is a focused statement of intent: four deep, grooving house tracks designed for DJs who value subtle movement and sustained floor energy. Out Of Zone combines Berlin minimal-house sensibility with a polished contemporary production approach, making it a strong opening chapter for the label.
