About Release

Kawaii San / Nathan Boost – Untitled is the first release in BinarySound’s BS-LTD vinyl series, issued as catalogue number BS-LTD01 in 2024 and limited to 250 copies. Pressed as a 12-inch, the record brings together four tracks split evenly between Kawaii San and Nathan Boost, moving through acid, electro, tech house and techno with a distinctly contemporary underground character. With Kawaii San taking the A-side and Nathan Boost occupying the flip, Untitled establishes the vinyl series with two contrasting but complementary approaches to hardware-driven club music. BinarySound is an electronic music label and promoter collective based in Hossegor, France. The label describes its identity through the connection between Hossegor and Paris, while its catalogue moves across house, techno, electro, acid, breaks and more experimental forms of club music. BS-LTD was created as a dedicated vinyl series, and Untitled is its first physical chapter. The record was subsequently followed by further BS-LTD releases, establishing the series as an ongoing platform for emerging and independent producers. The A-side belongs entirely to Kawaii San, a producer described by BinarySound's distribution information as half Japanese and half English and based in London at the time of the release. Before BS-LTD01, Kawaii San had already appeared on BinarySound's annual Bye Bye compilations, making Untitled a natural progression from the label's digital catalogue into its new vinyl format. “Roller Derby” opens the record with a fast-moving electronic groove. Listed around 129 BPM, the track immediately places the release in a more energetic area of the BinarySound spectrum. The rhythm has the functional precision associated with contemporary tech house and electro, while the acid classification attached to the release points toward a stronger emphasis on synthesised bass movement and machine-driven sequencing. Rather than relying on a traditional song structure, “Roller Derby” is built for momentum, repetition and gradual changes within the groove. The title gives the track a playful edge, but the music remains firmly focused on the dancefloor. At this tempo, “Roller Derby” can work effectively in a late warm-up or early peak-time set, particularly when a DJ wants to introduce more energetic electro or acid-inflected material without moving fully into harder techno. Its compact, club-oriented construction also makes it a natural opening statement for the record. Kawaii San follows with “What U Got”, the second A-side track. At approximately 131 BPM, it pushes the energy slightly higher and provides a natural continuation from “Roller Derby”. The track was also selected for an online premiere in 2024, where BinarySound's launch of the BS-LTD series was highlighted alongside the record's limited 250-copy pressing. “What U Got” demonstrates the more direct side of Kawaii San's contribution. Its faster tempo and club-focused structure make it particularly suited to DJs working across tech house, electro and contemporary acid-oriented sets. Rather than presenting a completely different aesthetic from the opening track, it develops the A-side's rhythmic language while giving the record a stronger sense of forward motion. The two Kawaii San productions work particularly well together as an A-side because they create a clear progression. “Roller Derby” establishes the groove and rhythmic framework, while “What U Got” increases the tempo and intensity. The result is an A-side that can be played as a pair or separated easily for use in different parts of a DJ set. The B-side introduces Nathan Boost, a Belgian producer based in Antwerp who was described at the time as the owner of the Hotbox label and collective. His side of the record changes the balance without breaking the overall club-oriented character of BS-LTD01. “Whale Stuff” opens the flip at approximately 130 BPM. The track remains within the broad tech house/electro territory of the release but shifts the emphasis toward Nathan Boost's own rhythmic language. The production is designed around movement and repetition, making it a functional DJ tool while retaining enough character to stand apart from a generic club track. The title “Whale Stuff” adds an intentionally unconventional touch to the otherwise stripped-back presentation of the release. Like the rest of the record, however, the track does not depend on a conventional vocal song structure. Its role is primarily rhythmic: establish a groove, develop tension and give the DJ a solid foundation for mixing. The closing track, “Swingy Swang”, is the fastest piece on the record, listed at approximately 133 BPM. It brings BS-LTD01 to its most energetic point and provides a strong conclusion to the four-track sequence. The title suggests a more playful rhythmic character, while the track's tempo places it comfortably within faster tech-house and electro-oriented sets. The four tracks therefore create a straightforward but effective structure: two productions from Kawaii San on the A-side followed by two Nathan Boost tracks on the B-side. There is no attempt to disguise the split or turn the record into a homogeneous compilation. Instead, BS-LTD01 gives each producer a full side to establish their own sound while keeping the overall release within a coherent club-oriented framework. One of the most significant aspects of Untitled is its limited physical format. The record was pressed in only 250 copies, making BS-LTD01 the kind of small-run underground pressing that appeals directly to vinyl-focused DJs and collectors. The limited quantity was part of the original distribution information and is consistently stated by specialist retailers. The record also represents an important moment in BinarySound's catalogue. The label had already established itself digitally, but BS-LTD01 marked the beginning of its dedicated vinyl series. Subsequent releases continued the same BS-LTD numbering system, including Light Blue File's BS-LTD02, Partisano's BS-LTD03 and later releases by Disco Stup & Swin and other artists. For DJs, the appeal of BS-LTD01 is its versatility within faster underground house music. The four tracks sit around 129–133 BPM, giving the record a consistent tempo range while allowing the individual productions to be used in different contexts. Kawaii San's A-side provides the opening progression, while Nathan Boost's B-side gives the record a second perspective and a stronger closing push. For collectors, the combination of a first-edition catalogue number, limited 250-copy pressing and the launch of BinarySound's BS-LTD vinyl series makes Untitled an important early document of the label's physical catalogue. It is also a snapshot of two young producers at a stage when both were developing their positions within the French and wider European underground electronic scene. Kawaii San / Nathan Boost – Untitled is ultimately a compact four-track statement built around rhythm, speed and electronic texture. Kawaii San's two A-side productions establish the record with energetic, acid-tinged club music, while Nathan Boost takes over on the flip with two equally functional cuts that maintain the momentum through to the final groove. Released as BinarySound BS-LTD01 and limited to 250 copies, Untitled is a focused 12-inch for DJs and collectors interested in contemporary acid, electro, tech house and techno. As the first release in BinarySound's BS-LTD vinyl series, it combines the immediacy of a DJ record with the scarcity and physical character of a small-run independent pressing. Tracklist: A1.
