JACIDOREX — Mindset 2x12"

Jacidorex – Mindset The new double-12-inch from Rave Alert Records (catalogue RAVE16) arrives as a focused techno statement from the enigmatic producer Jacidorex. Issued on 12 November 2021, the record presents eight cuts that explore a spectrum of kinetic moods while maintaining a cohesive underground vibe. Within Rave Alert’s recent output, Mindset follows the Black Roses EP by Jan Vercauteren (RAVE27, 2023) and precedes the forthcoming Push Up EP from Creeds (RAVE31, 2026) as well as La Kajofol’s Moonchild EP (RAVE50, 2025). This placement highlights the label’s commitment to forward-thinking techno across a compact but diverse catalogue. Side A opens with “Run”, a driving opener that sets a relentless pulse, immediately followed by “XTC”, which sustains the momentum with a slightly more hypnotic groove, creating a seamless transition that keeps the floor moving. On side B, “Solvent” introduces a darker, more stripped-back atmosphere, while “Spring” lifts the energy with a brighter, buoyant rhythm, offering a contrast that balances the side’s tonal range. Side C continues the journey with “Mortal Kombat”, a title that suggests a confrontational edge; the track delivers a tight, percussive thrust that feels suited to peak-time intensity. “Self Conscious” follows, providing a more introspective, looping texture that eases the set back into a reflective groove. The final side closes with the eponymous “Mindset”, a centerpiece that unifies the record’s themes through a steady, evolving structure, and finishes with “Spring (Mr Gasmak remix)”, a reinterpretation that re-imagines the earlier “Spring” motif with a slightly altered rhythmic feel, giving DJs a useful tool for re-mixing the mood. Jacidorex’s recent output includes the NeoAcid series on the NeoAcid imprint, notably NEOACID07VA (2024) and Neoacid 03 (2023), both 12-inch releases that have explored acid-tinged techno. Mindset extends that trajectory, moving toward a more minimal, percussive approach while retaining the producer’s penchant for precise sequencing. In the current underground landscape, Mindset offers a concise yet versatile set of tracks that can be deployed at various points in a DJ’s set—from early-night building blocks to late-hour peak moments. The interplay between the harder, driving pieces and the more melodic interludes provides ample options for mixing, while the inclusion of a remix on the final side adds a fresh angle for reinterpretation. From a collector’s perspective, the 2 × 12-inch format delivers ample space for deep cuts and nuanced mastering, allowing the vinyl medium to convey the subtle dynamics of each track. The record’s layout, with its clear side-by-side progression, makes it a practical addition to any techno-focused crate.
