GIUSEPPE SCARANO — Pleasure Dreams

Giuseppe Scarano – Pleasure Dreams opens the Skylax Records LAXHDF1 12-inch vinyl with a confident nod to the deep house and disco currents that define the label’s recent output. The Italian producer, now based in Antwerp, delivers a four-track EP that balances nostalgic 90s house exuberance with a contemporary club sensibility, making it a noteworthy addition to any dancefloor-oriented collection. Within the Skylax catalogue, Pleasure Dreams follows a series of releases slated for 2026, such as Kiko’s World Cup (Reissue) LAXC18 and Tom Carruthers’ Agenda EP LAX162. While those entries are set to appear later, Scarano’s EP arrives ahead of the label’s upcoming wave, positioning itself as an early statement of the label’s commitment to vibrant, groove-centric music. Side A begins with “De Folies”, a jubilant track that the label describes as a 90s house homage, channeling the bright energy of Sneak and Dimitri From Paris. Its rhythmic pulse instantly invites movement, establishing a bright, dancefloor-ready mood that segues naturally into the title track “Pleasure Dreams”. The second cut sustains the momentum, weaving a melodic thread that deepens the EP’s narrative while retaining the same buoyant spirit. Together, the A-side tracks create a seamless arc that moves from an exuberant kickoff to a slightly more introspective groove, each designed to keep bodies moving without losing the uplifting vibe. Flipping to Side B, “Walking On Music” introduces a disco-infused flavour, shifting the tonal palette toward a smoother, string-laden atmosphere that still respects the house foundation laid earlier. This track broadens the EP’s appeal, offering DJs a versatile moment for transition or a peak-time lift. The record closes with “Timeless”, a final gem that consolidates the EP’s themes of joy and spontaneity. Its structure provides a gentle wind-down, allowing the set to resolve with a sense of satisfaction while keeping the energy intact. In the context of Scarano’s recent discography, Pleasure Dreams follows the 2023 What A Feeling EP on Disco Disco Records Berlin (DISCO008) and the My Life EP on Fluid Funk (FF005). Both earlier releases showcased his penchant for punchy, melodic house, and the current EP refines that approach, adding a richer disco texture that aligns with the emerging Italian wave referenced by the label. The EP also sits alongside his exclusive vinyl The Cure EP (SNI001), underscoring his continued commitment to the format. For DJs, the record offers two clear entry points: the bright, immediate impact of “De Folies” works well as an opener or a peak-time boost, while “Walking On Music” provides a smoother, groove-oriented option for later in a set. The sequencing allows for flexible mixing, with the A-side tracks sustaining energy and the B-side offering a subtle shift in mood without breaking the flow. Collectors will appreciate the concise four-track format that captures a moment in Scarano’s evolving sound, as well as the connection to Skylax’s broader aesthetic. The release is pressed as a 12-inch vinyl, matching the format of Scarano’s recent EPs and fitting comfortably into standard DJ setups. Its straightforward presentation emphasizes the music itself, free from additional embellishments, and the vinyl medium ensures the warm, analog character that deep house and disco aficionados value.
