About Release

Danny Scott Lane – Martini Shot (MC) arrives on Records We Release Records as catalogue RWR05CASS, a tape cassette that captures the artist’s newest foray into vocal-driven, genre-blending songwriting. Issued on 4 December 2026, the cassette follows the LP version released the same day and continues the label’s string of balearic-infused house outings that have defined its recent output. Within the Records We Release catalogue, Martini Shot (MC) sits alongside Simon Herody’s Water On Mars (LP) and (MC), which arrived earlier in the year, and the label’s debut Hard Lounge (LP) from 2025. Danny Scott Lane’s previous outing on the imprint, House Of Alice (LP), also from 2026, set a precedent for the lush, lounge-leaning aesthetic that Martini Shot expands upon. The simultaneous LP and cassette releases underline the label’s commitment to multiple analog formats for a single artistic statement. Side A opens with the title track “Martini Shot”, a bright, slightly manic piece that feels like a late-night cocktail hour, its melodic contour echoing the nostalgic, ‘90s-tinged mixtape vibe described by the label. The second cut, “Girl From Beijing”, continues the wanderlust, pairing a breezy groove with an evocative title that suggests an exotic, far-flung romance. “I Have An Angel” follows, its lyrical focus offering a softer, more intimate moment that balances the side’s forward momentum. “You Don’t Gotta Cry No More” brings a reassuring, almost anthemic quality, while “Intimacy” closes side A with a gentle, lingering mood that prepares the listener for the deeper cuts on the flip. Side B begins with “All Of It”, a track that pulls together the record’s diverse influences—balearic shimmer, house pulse, and ambient ambience—into a cohesive, dance-floor ready statement. “Pillow Crazy” shifts toward a more dreamy, pop-house texture, its title hinting at a playful, off-kilter energy that works well in late-set moments. “Oh We All Know” offers a reflective pause, its lyrical content suggesting collective recognition, before “Unget My Shit Together” injects a restless, slightly chaotic edge that keeps the momentum alive. The record closes with “White Overalls”, a final track that feels like a nostalgic reverie, its simple title evoking a quiet, after-hours atmosphere. Martini Shot marks Lane’s second collaboration with Records We Release, building on the momentum of House Of Alice while introducing a vocal presence on seven of the ten tracks—a departure from his largely instrumental past. The addition of drums, percussion, flute and violin, contributed by longtime collaborator David Lackner and newcomers Logan Hone and Katie Jacoby, broadens the sonic palette and reinforces the record’s mixtape-like fluidity. For DJs, the cassette’s sequencing offers a ready-made narrative arc: the upbeat opener and mid-side tracks provide entry points for warm-up sets, while the deeper B-side cuts lend themselves to more introspective or late-night moments. Collectors will appreciate the analog fidelity of tape, the tactile experience of flipping sides, and the inclusion of both vocal and instrumental textures that make the release adaptable across varied set styles. The cassette format is presented as a standard 60-minute tape, mirroring the LP’s track order and preserving the full ten-track experience. While the release does not carry a special limited-edition label, its presence in both vinyl and cassette underscores the label’s dedication to analog diversity.
