About Release

Chris Stassy & Interplanetary Criminal – Dangerous The collaboration between Chris Stassy and Interplanetary Criminal lands on Up The Stuss as catalogue UTS29, a 12-inch vinyl EP that navigates the space where house, garage, breaks and pure dancefloor energy intersect. The four-track release arrives on 13 November 2026, offering a concise yet potent meeting of two producers whose individual signatures remain intact while forging a shared rhythmic language. Within the Up The Stuss catalogue, Dangerous follows a series of releases that have explored different corners of the underground. Earlier this year the label issued Jhobei’s “Slink ‘N Slide” (UTS14V), Lee Burton’s “Sinewaves” (UTS16V) and Locklead’s “Square One” 2x12” (UTS07V), while Nachtbraker’s “Bodu Imchi” (UTS28) and M-High’s “What’s Going On” (UTS27) set the tone for the label’s focus on forward-looking house and bass-heavy tracks. Chris Stassy himself contributed the three-disc “Lost, Found & Forgotten…” (UTSA01) earlier in 2026, establishing his presence on the imprint before this joint effort. Side A opens with “I just can’t get”, a track that immediately showcases Stassy’s knack for infectious grooves paired with Interplanetary Criminal’s breakbeat-driven pulse. The skippy rhythms set a kinetic mood that feels ready for the dancefloor, while the synth motifs hint at Stassy’s vivid melodic sensibility. The momentum shifts on A2, “Movin”, where punchy percussion accelerates the pace and introduces a more restless, breaks-heavy charge, pushing the record toward a tighter, more urgent groove. Side B deepens the dialogue. “From the south coast mate” brings weighty low-ends and unmistakable UK touches, a nod to Interplanetary Criminal’s Manchester-rooted garage heritage, while still allowing Stassy’s melodic approach to surface. The EP culminates with the title track “Dangerous”, a composition where bright and dark elements pull against each other. The two artists lock into a shared rhythm that feels both euphoric and gritty, delivering a slightly unpredictable climax that encapsulates the chemistry of the partnership. For Chris Stassy, Dangerous marks his first EP on Up The Stuss under his current moniker, following the euphoric “U know me” on CCS and adding a collaborative dimension to his recent output. Interplanetary Criminal, meanwhile, extends his prolific presence in the UK garage resurgence, building on earlier releases such as ATW007 (ATW Records, 2024) and the “Nobody EP” and “Darkside EP” on Time Is Now (both 2024). Both artists bring established sounds to the table, and this EP demonstrates how those identities can coexist without dilution. In the context of contemporary underground electronic music, Dangerous exemplifies a trend toward hybrid releases that blend house’s swing with garage’s syncopation and breakbeat’s kinetic drive. The record does not aim to redefine either genre; rather, it offers a refined illustration of how two seasoned producers can negotiate a shared space, delivering tracks that are instantly usable in a set while retaining enough nuance to reward repeated listening. From a DJ’s perspective, the EP provides versatile tools. “I just can’t get” works as an opening groove, its skippy rhythm ideal for warm-up moments. “Movin” supplies a higher-energy peak, perfect for transitioning into more intense sections. “From the south coast mate” offers a bass-heavy, garage-inflected mood suited to late-night slots, while “Dangerous” serves as a climax or a closing statement, its blend of brightness and grit allowing it to either lift a set or bring it to a satisfying resolution. The release is pressed on standard 12-inch vinyl, matching the format expectations of collectors and DJs who value analog fidelity and the tactile experience of cueing records. Its four tracks are spread across both sides, preserving the intended flow from the opening groove to the final statement.
