About Release
Xqte – Orbital South EP arrives on Global Pulse as catalogue GP07, a 12-inch vinyl that channels the warm, rhythmic spirit of southern Italy. The Neapolitan producer, Vincenzo Gargiulo, draws on his hometown’s early-2000s techno heritage, layering filtered chords, vocal hooks, funky basslines and percussive textures into a groove that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking.
Within Global Pulse’s recent output, GP07 follows a string of releases that have highlighted the label’s affinity for melodic techno and tribal-inflected dance music. Earlier this year the imprint delivered Rosati’s “Sweetest Taboo EP” (GP06) and “Lights Down EP” (GP05), while 2025 saw DJ Ali’s “Transformation EP” (GP04) and several Rosati outings (GP01-GP03). GP07 therefore continues a trajectory of releases that blend emotive synth work with club-ready rhythms.
Side A opens with “Orbital South”, a title that instantly evokes a sun-kissed coastline. The track builds from a filtered chord progression into a rolling groove, setting a bright tone that primes the floor for movement. It is followed by “Landfall”, which maintains the same rhythmic momentum but introduces a slightly tighter percussive feel, reinforcing the EP’s cohesive, uplifting atmosphere.
Side B deepens the journey. “Strata” offers a more layered texture, its groove unfolding with a subtle shift that invites a DJ to transition smoothly from the A-side energy. “Tufo” continues the tribal vibe, its percussive drive accentuating the record’s dance-floor focus. The closing cut, “Fading Coast”, serves as a reflective outro, its melodic contour gently receding while preserving the rhythmic pulse established earlier.
For Xqte, the EP sits alongside a series of recent 12-inch outings on other imprints, including the “Loops and Dubs EP Vol 2” (Planet Rhythm, PRRUKBLK156, 2026) and the original “Loops And Dubs EP” (Planet Rhythm, PRRUKBLK148, 2025), as well as “On The Scene” (Be as One, BAO096, 2025). Those releases showcase Gargiulo’s consistent interest in merging dub-inspired sampling with techno structures, a practice that finds a refined expression here on Global Pulse.
In the current underground landscape, Orbital South EP stands out for its blend of tribal rhythm and melodic techno, offering a sound that feels rooted in a specific locale while remaining universally danceable. Its filtered chords and vocal snippets provide enough melodic content to engage listeners, yet the grooves remain tight enough for seamless mixing in both peak-time and more nuanced set moments.
From a DJ’s perspective, the record delivers several practical assets: the A-side tracks supply immediate energy for opening or peak sections, while the B-side cuts afford deeper, more textural moments suitable for transition or winding down a set. The consistent tempo and tonal palette across all five cuts make the EP a reliable source of material for building a cohesive, geographically inspired segment within a set.
The release is pressed as a standard 12-inch vinyl, presenting the five tracks in a straightforward format that respects the analog listening experience. Its physical presentation aligns with Global Pulse’s recent catalogue, offering a tactile complement to the music’s rhythmic focus.
