About Release
Tlic – Winterplague Adopt
Minor’s MINOR027 arrives as a light-blue marbled 7-inch, a limited run of 300 copies that revisits a 2013 underground statement from Leipzig’s activist producer Tlic. The record fuses glitch-laden electronica and IDM structures with cold ambient textures and weighty industrial rhythms, positioning it at the intersection of electronica pop, techno pop, electro pop and experimental pop.
Within Minor’s 2026 output, Winterplague Adopt follows the earlier releases Yvat’s “Collider” (MINOR025) and “Feldspar” (MINOR028) as well as the collaborative “Yvatlic” (MINOR31) that paired Tlic with Yvat in 2017. It precedes Yamaoka’s “December Sky” (MINOR_AURA), slated for later in the year, and comes after Relapse’s “Your Mouth In My Hands / Multilingual Talk Channel” (MINOR_MORA). This placement underscores Minor’s commitment to forward-thinking, genre-blurring EPs.
Side A opens with “USB Stick In Quarantine”. The title evokes a moment of digital isolation, and the track’s structure mirrors the record’s overall frosty aesthetic, delivering a tight, rhythm-driven framework that can serve as a bridge between deeper techno cuts and more melodic pop moments. On Side B, “Pullarbear Cause Problem Solve” continues the wintry narrative, offering a darker, industrial-tinged progression that complements the A-side’s glitch-focused energy while adding a weightier, atmospheric finish.
For Tlic, Winterplague Adopt arrives after the 2017 “Yvatlic” 12-inch on Minor, extending the artist’s exploration of IDM-inspired sound design within the label’s experimental roster. The release reinforces Tlic’s reputation for merging intricate electronic patterns with an uncompromising industrial edge, a direction that remains consistent with the earlier collaborative work.
In the broader context of contemporary underground electronic music, the EP’s blend of cold ambient ambience and aggressive industrial beats reflects a current fascination with juxtaposing emotive soundscapes against hard-edged rhythms. The limited, hand-crafted polar-bear die-cut cover further situates the record as a collectible artifact that embodies Minor’s aesthetic of tactile, visually striking releases.
From a DJ’s perspective, the 33 rpm 7-inch format provides a concise, high-impact tool. “USB Stick In Quarantine” works well as a transitional piece, its glitch-laden drive capable of energising a set after a deeper groove. “Pullarbear Cause Problem Solve” offers a darker, more forceful climax, suitable for late-night peaks or as a closing statement that leaves a lingering industrial resonance.
The physical package is a 7-inch vinyl pressed at 33 rpm, presented on light-blue marbled vinyl. The run is limited to 300 copies and features a special die-cut polar bear fold cover, underscoring the release’s collectible nature.
