THE ROBINSON — Rituals EP

The Robinson – Rituals EP arrives on Taste Rec as catalogue TSTR007_NOCOVER, a 12-inch vinyl that navigates deep house, tribal and tech house terrain. The second release from the duo on this imprint continues their exploration of house’s second-wave Chicago roots and the melodic sheen of Italo House, now bolstered by live Kora textures and percussive tribal elements. Taste Rec’s recent output includes Feel Fly’s “FESTINA LENTE” (catalogue TSTR008, 2025), which arrived earlier in the label’s chronology. Positioned between that release and the label’s forthcoming titles, “Rituals EP” sustains the imprint’s reputation for pressure-filled, groove-centric releases that translate seamlessly from club floors to more intimate underground gatherings. Side A opens with “Native Faith (Original Mix)”. The track sets a hypnotic pulse, marrying a four-to-the-floor rhythm with a soulful melodic line that hints at the duo’s Italo-inflected sensibility. Its tribal percussion and the live Kora solo recorded for this EP add a distinctive organic layer, giving DJs a warm, rhythmic anchor for the early part of a set. The A-side continues with “Native Faith (Trinidadian Deep Remix)”, where the Trinidadian Deep treatment reinterprets the original’s groove through a deeper, more resonant bass emphasis, preserving the melodic core while extending the track’s dancefloor endurance. Flipping to side B, “Native Faith (Fred P Reshape)” offers a U.S. perspective from Fred P, who reshapes the composition with a tighter, tech-house edge. The remix tightens the rhythmic framework, providing a crisp, driving momentum that can bridge into peak-time moments. Closing the EP, “Primal Fear (Original Mix)” introduces a fresh composition that retains the release’s overarching tribal vibe. Its pulsating beats and groovy bass line, complemented by the same live Kora voice, create a compelling finale that balances intensity with melodic depth. Within The Robinson’s discography, “Rituals EP” follows the “The Al Go Rithmic EP” (Upstairs Asylum Records, UAR017, 2025) and “The Coin EP Vol.2” (Ten Lovers Music, TLM036, 2024), both 12-inch vinyl outings that established the duo’s penchant for merging classic house foundations with contemporary textures. The presence of remixes by Fred P and Trinidadian Deep—who have recently issued several 12-inch records such as “World Beats Vol.2” (World Beats, WB02, 2026) and “Deep Rooted Isle” (Fatsouls Records, FSRDR061, 2026)—situates the EP within a network of current deep-house productions that value both rhythmic rigor and melodic nuance. For DJs, the record offers a versatile toolkit: the original mixes provide a solid, melodic groove suitable for warm-up or mid-set slots, while the remixes deliver heightened energy for peak moments. The tribal percussion and Kora accents afford a unique timbral fingerprint that can be layered with other percussive elements or used to transition into more world-influenced sets. Collectors will appreciate the cohesive aesthetic that ties the four cuts together, as well as the collaboration with respected remixers who bring distinct regional flavors to the same source material. The EP is pressed on 12-inch vinyl, presented without a cover as indicated by the catalogue reference. Its format aligns with the tactile, analog experience prized by house enthusiasts and vinyl collectors alike.
