SIGMA — Country Greaze

Sigma – COUNTRY GREAZE Day Ones Music’s DAYONESLP2 arrives as a 12-inch vinyl that thrusts the duo’s drum & bass foundation into a theatrical countryside setting. The album’s Fern Green vinyl skin mirrors the concept’s clash of gritty rave energy with the opulence of a manor, a visual cue for the high-concept body of work that follows. As Sigma’s second independent album and fifth studio effort, COUNTRY GREAZE promises a bold blend of heavyweight basslines, lyricism and a tongue-in-cheek cultural mash-up that flips expectations on its head. Within the Day Ones Music roster, COUNTRY GREAZE follows the label’s earlier DAYONESLP1, also by Sigma, released in 2025. The progression from the debut LP to this new statement shows the label’s commitment to supporting the duo’s evolving vision while keeping the focus on cutting-edge drum & bass. By situating the release after DAYONESLP1, the label continues to map a trajectory that balances underground credibility with ambitious thematic projects. Side A opens with “NEED U NOW (with Dutch & Graft & Professor Green)”, a track that channels the hip-hop inspired energy referenced in the album’s description, setting a forward-moving momentum for the side. “BACK 2 LIFE (feat. Liv Campbell) (with Soul II Soul, Capo Lee & Zimma)” follows, weaving in the reggae-infused vibe mentioned, while paying homage to UK Sound System culture. “ANOTHER ONE (with Sweetie Irie)” continues the genre-blending approach, and “SKANKTOWN” sustains the momentum with a gritty, dancefloor-ready pulse. “WATCHIN’ U (with America Foster)” brings the reggae-flavoured influence to the fore, and the side closes with “ALLIGATOR”, a track the label describes as a summer floor-filler whose ominous intro warns before unleashing a massive bassline and ferocious drums. Side B begins with “LEGENDARY STATUS (feat. Klaudia Keziah) (with Danny Byrd, Kurupt FM & Natty D)”, a collaboration that underscores the album’s celebration of the scenes and artists that have shaped Sigma’s journey. The focus track “THE DAYZ (with Jude Moore)” is highlighted by the label as a nostalgic piece that blends space-disco synths with punchy drums and a chunky bassline, evoking memories of early-2000s UK house parties while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary drum & bass. “FABRIC” follows, described as a homage to the club that helped forge Sigma’s sound, pairing euphoric multi-layered synths with deep sub-bass for a late-night vibe. “SODP (with Basslayerz & Scrufizzer)” continues the high-energy flow, “ABOUT TO GO DOWN (with Zola Fire)” adds a further burst of intensity, and the record concludes with “RULES (with NEONE the Wonderer)”, a closing statement that ties together the album’s thematic contrast between aristocratic imagery and street-level bass culture. In the context of Sigma’s discography, COUNTRY GREAZE builds on the groundwork laid by Day One LP, expanding the duo’s palette through a wider roster of UK talent and a conceptual framework that juxtaposes rural grandeur with urban bass culture. The release sits comfortably within Day Ones Music’s catalogue, reinforcing the label’s reputation for delivering forward-thinking drum & bass while honoring the genre’s roots. For DJs, the record offers a versatile toolbox: the A-side provides high-impact openers and mid-set drivers, while the B-side supplies both nostalgic, melodic moments and hard-hitting closers. Tracks like “THE DAYZ” and “FABRIC” work well for peak-time lifts, whereas “ALLIGATOR” and “LEGENDARY STATUS” deliver the weight needed for darker, bass-heavy moments. Collectors will appreciate the cohesive concept, the guest roster and the Fern Green vinyl that visually signals the album’s thematic ambition. COUNTRY GREAZE is presented as a 12-inch vinyl, pressed in a Fern Green colour that reflects the album’s countryside motif. The format supports the full twelve-track experience, allowing the listener to engage with the record’s narrative from start to finish.
