ROBERT BABICZ — Electric Love EP

Robert Babicz – Electric Love EP opens Dark Flower’s catalogue with FLOWER0001, an exclusive vinyl that stakes a claim for the new imprint as a personal arena for Babicz’s techno-house sensibilities. The 12-inch arrives in full colour, marrying the label’s neotrance leanings with the rhythmic drive of tech house, and signals a continuation of the producer’s long-standing relationship with Systematic Recordings. Dark Flower, conceived as a private space for Babicz’s own output, follows a lineage of releases on Bedrock, Kompakt, Systematic and Sudbeat, yet the EP is presented as a self-contained statement rather than a launch statement. The imprint’s name, drawn from one of Babicz’s signature tracks, frames the record as a room where sound, emotion and instinct converge. Side A begins with “Electric Love”, a track that bursts with punchy breaks, luminous harmonies and choral textures that lift the rhythm into a bright, airy space. Its bold, open construction offers a moment of elevation before the floor-oriented shift of “Cuerpo Con Color”. The second A-side track introduces warm chords and a fluent groove, maintaining a calm, driving pressure that subtly pulls the body into motion, providing a smooth transition from the celestial opening. Side B revisits “Tease Me” in two incarnations. The primary mix delivers a burning bassline underpinned by oriental vocal fragments, creating a seductive tension that lingers throughout. The “Tool” version deepens the mood, preserving the track’s strange, physical character while offering a slightly altered arrangement that emphasizes the underlying drive, making it a versatile tool for the latter part of a set. Within Babicz’s extensive discography, the EP reinforces his reputation for crafting tracks that balance melodic lift with club-ready propulsion. It fits comfortably alongside his previous work on major techno and house imprints, while the exclusive vinyl format underscores a tactile appeal for collectors who value the analog experience. For DJs, the record offers clear entry points: “Electric Love” works as an uplifting opener or a peak-time lift, “Cuerpo Con Color” provides a groove-focused bridge, and the two “Tease Me” cuts supply both a deep, bass-heavy climax and a nuanced, tool-oriented close. The sequencing encourages a narrative flow that can be adapted to both peak-hour intensity and more nuanced, late-night journeys. The release is pressed as an exclusive 12-inch vinyl, reflecting the label’s emphasis on a dedicated, physical medium. Its colourful presentation mirrors the sonic palette, making it a compelling addition for both vinyl enthusiasts and DJs seeking fresh material that bridges techno, tech house and neotrance.
