Back at the controls, CEP Records head riko returns for the fourth instalment of the CEPX series. Following his debut on the first release, 'Backside' delivers four hardgroove-inspired cuts built around tight grooves, punchy low-end and sharp, upfront drums.
Opening the A-side, 'YBXA' keeps things minimal, with a loopy but sharp groove. A funky one-shot kicks in around the halfway mark, giving the track its own edge. A2, '1L2R', follows with a hypnotic synth line and crunchy Japanese vocals, adding another layer of texture to the rolling drums. On the B-side, 'Backside' shifts the balance: the kick takes a step back while a persistent synth line drives the track. A pad enters around the midpoint, opening up the arrangement and adding depth without losing the groove. Closing duties fall to 'With Melon', where warm chords and a slightly cheesy melody bring a more emotional touch to the record.
