About Release
Rick Wade – Night Track / Cold Fusion
The new 12-inch from P & D (catalogue PND5THSPECIAL) arrives as a black vinyl repress, celebrating the label’s fifth anniversary. This deep-house and Chicago-house offering revisits two of Wade’s classic cuts – “Night Track”, originally issued on Elevate in 1995, and “Cold Fusion”, first heard on Big Daddy’s Dark Ascencion compilation in 2002 – now paired with a bonus piece on the flip side. The release underscores Wade’s enduring link to the city-spanning groove that defines the label’s output.
Within P & D’s recent chronology, this record follows the forthcoming “Night Station 2 A.m. Detroit” (catalogue PND08), slated for later in 2026. The two releases share a focus on Detroit-rooted house aesthetics, reinforcing the label’s commitment to the deep, hypnotic strains that have become its signature.
Side A opens with “Night Track”, a nod to the original Elevate version that captured the mid-90s club vibe. Its placement sets a warm, rolling foundation that segues naturally into the B-side. On side B, “Cold Fusion” continues the journey, echoing the atmospheric depth of its original compilation context while maintaining a dancefloor-ready pulse. The final cut, the unnamed bonus track, offers a brief, rewarding extra for those who spin the record, acting as a palate cleanser before the needle lifts.
Wade’s recent discography on vinyl has been prolific. Earlier in 2025 he delivered “Functional Anger EP” on PHONOGRAMME and “Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol 2” on Art Is The Place, both reinforcing his reputation for melding deep grooves with subtle melodic twists. “Night Trackin'” (Rawax Motor City Edition, 2025) and “Disko Dust EP” (Upstairs Asylum, 2025) further explored the Detroit-inspired palette that resurfaces here. The upcoming “Night Station 2 A.m. Detroit” will extend this narrative, while “Just Beneath EP” on Collect Records (2026) hints at a broader, more experimental direction.
In the current underground landscape, the record stands as a bridge between classic house heritage and contemporary vinyl culture. By re-pressing two historically significant tracks, P & D provides DJs with ready-to-play material that carries both nostalgic weight and fresh relevance. The deep-house groove of “Night Track” suits late-night set-ups, offering a smooth entry point, whereas “Cold Fusion” delivers a slightly more expansive mood, ideal for building tension before a peak. The bonus track, though brief, can be used as a transition cue or a momentary reset within a longer mix.
For collectors, the black vinyl pressing adds a tactile nod to the original releases, while the inclusion of a previously unavailable bonus cut makes the record a worthwhile addition to any house-oriented crate. The 12-inch format ensures ample groove space for optimal playback, preserving the warmth and depth that analog enthusiasts prize.
