RELAXER — Relaxer EP

Relaxer – Relaxer EP arrives on the Relaxer imprint as catalogue TRANQUILITY2, a 12-inch vinyl that deepens the artist’s exploration of minimal techno, drone and deep techno. The promo restock underscores the demand for a record that is both heavy and virulent, pulling listeners further into a fascinating and unique sonic world. While the label’s broader output is not detailed here, the EP follows the artist’s earlier Avenue 66 release, Coconut Grove 2x12″ (AVE66-07, 2019), showing a continued commitment to immersive, long-form compositions that favour atmosphere over immediate hook. Side A opens with “Hissing Flora”, a ten-minute journey that unfolds organically. Its melodic tendrils wrap around a corroded vocal, anchored by a heaving low end that gives the piece a palpable weight. The track’s gradual development makes it suitable for early-set layering, allowing DJs to introduce a slowly building tension that can be mixed into deeper moments of a set. Side B begins with “Weekend”, a beatless mist that drifts forward with flickers of venomous voices and crumbling synths that shine through drawn shades. The absence of a defined rhythm creates a spacious canvas for transitional mixing, ideal for weaving into more percussive tracks or for use as an atmospheric interlude in a late-night set. The record closes with “Climate of Fear”, a stark contrast that snaps the listener out of the uneasy rest established by its predecessor. Stomping percussion, overflowing arpeggiations and keening harmonies combine to deliver a kinetic burst of energy, offering a powerful climax that can re-ignite a dancefloor or serve as a decisive closing statement in a DJ’s set. Within Relaxer’s modest discography, the EP reinforces a trajectory of deep, textural productions that prioritize mood and gradual evolution. The three tracks together map a narrative arc from slow-burning immersion to a sudden, rhythmic release, reflecting contemporary trends in underground techno where extended, hypnotic structures coexist with moments of stark intensity. For collectors, the 12-inch format provides a tactile experience that matches the music’s emphasis on gradual development. DJs will appreciate the length of “Hissing Flora” for building momentum, the ambient texture of “Weekend” for seamless transitions, and the driving force of “Climate of Fear” for peak-time impact. The record’s balance of drone-laden ambience and rhythmic propulsion makes it a versatile addition to any deep-techno oriented crate. The release is pressed on 12-inch vinyl, presented as a limited promo restock, aligning with the label’s focus on delivering substantial, immersive listening experiences in a physical format.
