RAZ OHARA — Tyrants LP

Raz started working on the album Tyrants in 2017 andmixed the finished version in 2021. The writing processbegan with listening to sketches and sound-files hehad collected throughout the past years, which he hadnot yet given up on. The album is thus a naturalcontinuation of his previous works and showcasesRaz’s unique sound design coherently. His increasedfocus into composition and arrangement is highlightedeven further in this release.In the oblivious environment surrounding his hideawaylake cabin he produced an album that is rich anddiverse in its sonic palette, ranging from harshlydistorted synth-peaks, cinematic soundscapes, all theway to avant-garde contemporary classical, and jazzmusic. It is an album that invites the listener to exploreand discover not just the intimate self: it is also a verypersonal, intuitive observation and reflection on theworld that we are living in today.Certain instruments are very prominent. An old pianothat was left in Raz’ apartment by a friend that hefound joy in playing.One can hear a certain curiosity inthe performance of this newly found, dust layeredtreasure (Bardot). Sonically the album is an attempt toblend acoustic sound recordings with synthesizedsounds, and to blend musical genres into one. It is anacoustic expression of the transformative times we areliving in, a realm of mankind being mastered bytechnology.The gap of this transformational process isa glitchy moment of time. It is portrayed on the frontcover image of the album, by glitch artist AzamatAkhmadbaev.
