Those earlier outings established the label’s penchant for forward-thinking dance music, and New Jackson’s contribution deepens that narrative by turning live-tested ideas into a cohesive record. The record opens with “the night mail”, a track that immediately sets a nocturnal tone, its title suggesting a late-night transmission that segues smoothly into the second cut “exit loop”. The latter continues the momentum, reinforcing the record’s forward-driving pulse. “metamorphosis” follows, its title hinting at a shift in mood that bridges the first half of side A with the more expansive “blaze all day (last dabs mix)”, a remix that expands the groove for extended play. “losing my religion” closes side A, its evocative name implying a reflective dip before side B picks up with “romancecar”, a nod to New Jackson’s earlier EP of the same name and a reminder of the artist’s long-standing relationship with Permanent Vacation. “moonfeel” and “all folly” round out the record, the former offering a dreamy continuation while the final track caps the journey with a sense of closure.
