MC CONRAD, MAKOTO — Golden Girl

MC Conrad & Makoto – Golden Girl Planet Wax Inc. releases Golden Girl on PWX2601, a 12-inch vinyl that revisits the late MC Conrad’s iconic track with a fresh re-recorded version on side A and a new Makoto remix on side B. The release arrives as a commemorative statement, originally issued digitally to support Conrad’s family before being given a physical home. The record arrives as part of Planet Wax Inc.’s revived in-house output, a south London shop-turned-label that has been curating special projects. While the label’s broader catalogue remains undisclosed, Golden Girl stands as a focused tribute that bridges past and present within the drum & bass scene. Side A opens with “Re-Recorded Version”, a reconstruction that preserves the melodic core of the original while updating the production to contemporary drum & bass standards. The arrangement offers a spacious groove that invites both deep listening and seamless integration into a set, providing a bridge between the track’s nostalgic roots and modern club energy. Flipping the record, “Remix” delivers Makoto’s signature take on the material. The remix re-imagines the theme with a kinetic rhythm and a bright, forward-moving drive, making it a natural climax for late-night moments or a peak-time surge. Its placement as the B-side underscores its role as a fresh reinterpretation that complements the A-side’s reverence. Within Makoto’s recent output, Golden Girl follows a productive period that includes the Mirage Cafè EP on 8MM Records (PWX2601’s predecessor in 2026) and the dedicated tribute “It’s Alright, I Feel It / Dedicated to Conrad” on Hospital Records, also from 2026. Those releases highlighted Makoto’s capacity to blend emotive lyricism with high-energy drum & bass, a sensibility that resurfaces here in both the re-recorded and remixed treatments. For DJs, the record offers two distinct tools: a faithful yet refreshed version that can anchor a set with its familiar hook, and a high-octane remix ready to lift the momentum. Collectors will appreciate the physical manifestation of a track that originally existed only as a digital fundraiser, now captured in the tactile format of a 12-inch. The vinyl arrives as a 12-inch record with a printed sleeve, reflecting Planet Wax Inc.’s commitment to tangible, well-presented releases. Its format supports optimal playback for both seasoned turntablists and new vinyl enthusiasts. MC Conrad & Makoto – Golden Girl, Planet Wax Inc., PWX2601, 12-inch Vinyl, 2 tracks. Tracklist: A1.
