About Release
Jerk Boy – Exploration, Rhythm, Music & A Bassline
Australian producer and DJ Jerk Boy, aka Adam Stivala, returns to his Sosilly imprint with Exploration, Rhythm, Music & A Bassline, a three-track 12-inch that sits comfortably between disco, house and contemporary nu-disco. Catalogued as SSR011, the record continues the Sydney-based artist’s long-running approach to dancefloor music built around edited grooves, funk-driven basslines and a strong connection to classic disco culture.
The A-side, Dancing Down The Path, features The Coney Island Rhythm Band and immediately sets a more expansive tone. The track draws on the spirit of late-70s jazz-funk and Balearic disco, with a warm, rhythmic arrangement designed for movement rather than nostalgia alone. Lighthouse Records identifies Ralph MacDonald’s 1978 classic The Path as the source material, with Jerk Boy reshaping its melodic character around steel-pan colours and a distinctly tropical, uplifting groove.
On the B-side, E.R.M.B (Original Mix) moves into a more contemporary disco framework. A pronounced bassline provides the foundation while clipped piano figures, breakbeat accents and bright strings build a layered but highly functional arrangement. The vocal hook gives the track an immediate identity, while rave-influenced piano chords introduce a slightly melancholic edge beneath the otherwise celebratory surface. At around 121 BPM, it occupies a useful space between disco-house warmth and modern club functionality.
E.R.M.B (Dub Mix) strips the concept back further, offering a version aimed more directly at the dancefloor. The dub treatment retains the central rhythmic architecture while placing greater emphasis on groove and instrumental movement. Together, the two versions demonstrate Jerk Boy’s ability to treat disco material as functional club music rather than simply as a retro reference point.
The record also fits naturally within Jerk Boy’s wider catalogue. Adam Stivala has developed a sound positioned between house and disco through releases on labels including Sense Traxx, Clipp.Art, Karussell, Club Sweat and Refuge, while Sosilly has become the central platform for his vinyl-focused edits and original productions. His previous work has received support from artists including Mano Le Tough, Hunee, Folamour, Dam Swindle, TSHA, Demuja and Mark Knight.
Exploration, Rhythm, Music & A Bassline is therefore less a conventional three-track EP than a compact statement of Jerk Boy’s musical territory: disco-derived source material, house-oriented drum programming, prominent bass, playful piano work and enough rhythmic detail to function across different points of a DJ set. With its combination of jazz-funk references, nu-disco colour and contemporary house dynamics, SSR011 is aimed squarely at selectors who want character and groove without sacrificing dancefloor utility.
For DJs, the record offers three clearly defined tools. Dancing Down The Path brings a brighter, Balearic-leaning energy; E.R.M.B (Original Mix) delivers the most complete contemporary disco-house statement; and the Dub Mix provides a more spacious option for longer blends and deeper sections of a set. The 12-inch was issued through Sosilly Edits in October 2025 and has subsequently appeared in specialist vinyl catalogues across Europe and Australia.
