About Release
Jan Kincl – Lights Out opens Cycle Records’ sixth outing, catalog CYCLE-06, on 12-inch vinyl. The Croatian producer and live performer, known for work on BBE Records, Far Out Recordings, Sonar Kollektiv and Get Physical, delivers a deep house statement written and produced at his own Cycle Studio in Zagreb. The release offers a Main Mix and an Alternative Mix, flanked by two remixes from Trinidadian Deep, whose pedigree includes mentorship by Ron Trent and releases on Neroli, Vision Recordings, Toto and Makin’ Moves.
Within Cycle Records’ brief but focused catalogue, Lights Out follows the earlier CYCLE-02 “Rising Soul” by Laseech, positioning the new record as a continuation of the label’s deep-house aesthetic while expanding its sonic palette through the Trinidadian Deep reinterpretations. The pairing of an original deep house groove with a modern, atmospheric take underscores Cycle’s commitment to both classic and forward-looking sounds.
Side A begins with “01: Main Mix”. The track establishes a steady, immersive groove that invites the listener to close their eyes and let the dance-floor ambience take over, echoing DJ Kemit’s comment about its hypnotic vibe when the lights dim. Its structure provides a solid foundation for mixing, with enough space for layering and subtle progression.
The second and third cuts, “02: Trinidadian Deep Remix 1” and “03: Trinidadian Deep Remix 2”, reinterpret the original through a contemporary deep house lens. Both versions retain the core emotional pulse while introducing a more spacious, atmospheric texture that Intergalactic Gary describes as “deep, atmospheric and emotional”. The two remixes sit back-to-back, offering DJs a choice between a slightly more driving approach and a more introspective mood, each suitable for different points in a set.
Side B closes with “04: Alternative Mix”. This version flips the original’s classic house vibe into a modern deep take, aligning with DJ Lady D’s observation of the release’s contrast. The mix highlights nuanced rhythmic shifts and a refined tonal palette, making it a versatile tool for late-night transitions or for building tension before a peak.
Lights Out occupies a distinct place in Jan Kincl’s output, marking a return to his own imprint after a series of releases on other respected labels. The record’s dual mixes and the two remixes provide a compact yet varied toolkit for DJs seeking both nostalgic house references and current deep house sensibilities.
From a collector’s perspective, the 12-inch format preserves the warmth and depth of the production, while the inclusion of both original and remixed versions makes the record a concise anthology of the track’s possibilities. Its appeal spans deep-house purists, DJs who favour atmospheric builds, and listeners who appreciate a track that rewards closed-eye listening on the dance floor.
The release is presented as a standard 12-inch vinyl, aligning with Cycle Records’ straightforward approach to physical releases.
