FLOATIST — Somewhere Else Entirely

Floatist – Somewhere Else Entirely opens the floatistmusic FLM-LP001 12-inch vinyl with a cinematic road-trip concept that fuses indie folk, dream pop and neo-soul sensibilities. The debut LP charts a sun-lit journey toward the sea, guided by playful yet propulsive grooves, sweeping strings and hazy analogue textures that balance curiosity, courage and joy. Although floatistmusic’s catalogue is not detailed here, the release stands as a fully realised statement from Floatist, whose debut explores connection in uncertain times. The record’s twelve tracks drift between intimate storytelling and expansive choirs, each piece inviting the listener to lean into a warm, maritime breeze while the landscape shifts from quiet coastlines to open horizons. Side A begins with “1: somewhere else”, a title that immediately sets a tone of departure. The following tracks – “2: Fisher Poetry Club”, “3: Dead Fish”, “4: Landscapes”, “5: Shit Happens (but it still sucks)”, “6: Earthbound”, “7: In One Mind”, “8: The Reason I am here (Mom)”, “9: Feed My Flame”, “10: YRU”, “11: The Night it Rained into the House”, “12: On The Run” and “13: When It's Time” – unfold as a sequence of airy grooves and cinematic strings. The titles suggest a narrative arc from contemplation to movement, and the music mirrors this with gentle, intimate vocal lines that merge into immersive choruses, creating a sense of forward momentum without sacrificing intimacy. The record’s texture is built on analogue soundscapes that feel both nostalgic and forward-looking. The grooves are playful, encouraging a rolling feel that suits both focused listening and subtle set transitions. The strings act as a cinematic thread, tying the disparate moods together while the underlying rhythms maintain a steady pulse that can anchor a DJ’s mix. Within Floatist’s emerging output, Somewhere Else Entirely offers a cohesive vision that aligns with the likes of Helena Deland, Nick Hakim and Feist, yet retains a distinct voice through its blend of folk-inflected lyricism and pop-oriented production. The record’s placement among contemporary underground releases highlights a growing appetite for music that balances indie-soul warmth with dancefloor-ready rhythm. For DJs, the LP provides a versatile toolkit: the opening track works as a mood-setter, the mid-album pieces deliver a gentle lift suitable for early-evening sets, and the later cuts, especially “12: On The Run” and “13: When It's Time”, carry enough drive to transition into more kinetic moments. Collectors will appreciate the seamless flow of the twelve tracks, each contributing to a unified journey that rewards repeated spins. The release arrives as a 12-inch vinyl, presenting the full twelve-track suite in a format that honours the analogue aesthetic central to Floatist’s sound. The record’s physical presence complements its sonic narrative, offering a tactile experience that mirrors the imagined road trip.
