ELEMENT, 1SOLAR BOSS — Over The Sea EP

The latest single on the Riddim Chango imprint pairs label co-founder Element with 1Solar Boss, a kid MC from Jamaica, on Beenie Man’s 80s dancehall cut “Over the Sea”, which he first voiced as a child deejay in Kingston in 1982. Here an eleven-year-old sings it again, over a fast 160 BPM stepper riddim laced with hymn-like riffs. On the flip side, “Eye of the Monolith” is a 133 BPM industrial stepper, heavy but unhurried, followed by its dub version, where harmonised delays open the riddim up into something wider and more hypnotic. Earlier this year, 1Solar Boss lost his mother, Dark Child, the MC known for her work with Seekers International and Duppy Gun.
