DJ PYTHON — To Accomplish Many Things

DJ Python – to accomplish many things opens XL Recordings’ XL1667T as a 12-inch vinyl that pushes the artist’s hybrid of electronica and pop house into new, warmer territory. The EP follows the 2025 “i was put on this earth”, a record praised for its gentle reverie, and continues to blend reggaeton’s low pulse, ambient patience, deep-house drive and the abstract textures of trip-hop, shoegaze and pop. Within XL Recordings’ 2026 output, this release arrives after Blawan’s “GI MI KEYS BACK / AUTO FAKE” (XL1697T) and Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At (Steve Angello Remix)” (XL1648T), positioning it among a roster that leans toward forward-thinking dance music. The label’s recent focus on genre-blurring projects, exemplified by Danny L Harle’s “Cerulean LP” (XLLP1585) and Leila’s three-disc “Courtesy of Choice ۲۵ … asides and besides” (XLLP1571), provides a fitting context for Python’s exploratory approach. A1 “Having Having Having A Coke With You With You With You” opens the record with a melodic hook that feels both intimate and expansive, setting a tone of understated groove that eases the listener into the EP’s fluid mood. A2 “Honey Bee” follows, maintaining the same melodic sensibility while shifting the rhythmic emphasis, creating a subtle lift that keeps the momentum moving forward. A3 “Horse Latitudes” deepens the atmosphere, offering a more contemplative space that bridges the earlier pop-inflected tracks with the EP’s darker undercurrents. A4 “Forgetful Angel” provides a gentle resolution, its melodic contours echoing the opening track’s warmth while hinting at the lyrical focus that defines the record’s vocal moments. A5 “Mi Fai Sorridere” closes the side with a final, looser arrangement that feels both warm and slightly more experimental, rounding out the five-track journey. For DJ Python, this EP marks a further step into singing and songwriting, with contributions from Ari, Tony Bontana and Eden adding vocal texture across the set. While the artist’s earlier releases such as “Mas Amable”, “Angel” and “Club Sentimientos Vol 2” emphasized hypnotic solo productions, “to accomplish many things” expands that palette, offering tracks that can serve both as melodic set-openers and as deeper, mood-setting moments later in a night. In the current underground landscape, the record stands out for its ability to straddle dancefloor functionality and introspective listening. Its blend of pop-house rhythm, ambient space and subtle reggaeton influence makes it a versatile addition to any collection that values genre fluidity and emotive songwriting. From a DJ’s perspective, the EP’s five tracks provide a range of tools: the opening track’s hook works well for early-set layering, “Honey Bee” can be mixed into more percussive moments, while “Horse Latitudes” offers a spacious backdrop for transition into deeper sets. “Forgetful Angel” and “Mi Fai Sorridere” lend themselves to late-night moods, their melodic warmth supporting both peak-time peaks and after-hours winding down. The release arrives as a 12-inch vinyl, presenting the full five-track program in a format that respects the analog tradition while delivering the nuanced textures of Python’s evolving sound.
