About Release
Dexter – Future Dexterity opens the Sushitech catalogue with SUSH89W, a triple-12-inch white vinyl set that gathers nine tracks from the producer’s early-2000s archive. The release situates itself squarely in the tech house realm, offering a blend of dry sampled grooves, vocal snippets and forward-looking synth motifs that have defined Dexter’s long-standing reputation in the UK underground.
Within Sushitech’s recent output, Future Dexterity follows a series of releases that explore the label’s penchant for archival and forward-thinking material. Earlier in the year the imprint issued Terry Francis’ “Digitec” (SUSH78 / SUSH78C) and “Digitec: Addendum” (SUSH80 / SUSH80C), while Housey Doingz contributed the “A Sillybration” pair (SUSH69, SUSH70). Dexter’s triple-LP arrives alongside these projects, reinforcing Sushitech’s focus on deep, historically rooted techno and house narratives.
Side A opens with “Future”, a title that hints at the record’s forward thrust. Its looping structure creates a hypnotic entry point that segues naturally into the B-side. “Twist And Shout” (B1) picks up the momentum with a slightly more kinetic pulse, while “Time For A Break” (B2) offers a brief respite, its measured pacing providing a subtle contrast before the record’s centrepiece. On side C, “Total Recoil (Dexterity Remastered)” revisits a classic cut, its refreshed treatment preserving the original’s intensity while sharpening the groove for contemporary decks.
Side D introduces “Izo” (D1) and “Dimbeloid” (D2), two tracks that sustain the record’s rolling rhythm, each delivering a distinct mood that can be layered into a deep-house set. “Cheeky, Cheeky Monkey” (E1) brings a playful twist, its cheeky title reflected in a buoyant rhythm that works well for peak-time transitions. The final side closes with “Orientation (Dexterity Version)” (F1) and “All I Need” (F2), tracks that balance the record’s archival focus with a timeless dancefloor appeal, making them suitable for both late-night journeys and earlier set peaks.
Dexter’s back-catalogue on vinyl includes the “Past Moves 3x12” (SUSH66/67/68) on the same label, as well as earlier outings on Endell Street, Slow-Wave and dektreks. Those releases have cemented his reputation for hardware-driven, instinctual production, and Future Dexterity extends that narrative by compiling unreleased and rare material that still feels immediate. Within Sushitech’s broader vision, the record stands as a testament to the label’s commitment to preserving and re-contextualising seminal underground tracks.
For DJs, the nine-track spread offers a versatile toolkit. “Future” and “Twist And Shout” can anchor the opening of a set, while “Time For A Break” provides a moment to shift energy. The remastered “Total Recoil” and the two D-side cuts lend themselves to deeper, more introspective sections, and “Cheeky, Cheeky Monkey” injects a lighter vibe for peak moments. The closing pair are ideal for winding down a set or for looping into a late-night groove, their timeless construction ensuring they sit comfortably alongside newer productions.
The release arrives as a 3×12-inch white vinyl package, reflecting the label’s aesthetic while delivering the weight and fidelity expected of a heavyweight pressing. The white vinyl presentation adds a visual cue to the archival nature of the material, positioning the set as both a collector’s item and a functional piece of DJ gear.
