About Release
Palmkids presents Canta O AK, the debut release in its catalogue, with Bruss delivering six tracks built around Brazilian baile funk, Miami bass and contemporary bass-oriented club music. Released as PLMKDS001, the 12-inch brings together original productions and remixes by Juait and Street Choice, connecting the rhythmic vocabulary of 1990s Brazilian baile funk with a modern European underground dancefloor aesthetic.
The record is rooted in rhythm. Bruss takes the hard, syncopated pulse of baile funk and combines it with the deep low-end pressure and electronic swing associated with Miami bass, creating a sound that sits naturally between house, breaks, electro and bass music. Rather than reproducing the source styles literally, Canta O AK treats them as the foundation for a more contemporary club language.
Essa Mina E Um Perigo opens the record with a direct rhythmic approach. The track places percussion and bass at the centre of the arrangement, establishing the physical character that runs through the EP. Its appeal comes from the combination of tight rhythmic programming and the unmistakable movement of Brazilian-inspired club percussion.
Wataweu continues in a similarly energetic direction, maintaining the record's emphasis on groove while introducing more space around the rhythmic elements. The production leaves room for the bass and percussion to interact, giving the track a strong functional quality for DJs while retaining the distinctive character of the baile funk influence.
Street Choice's remix of Wataweu takes the material into another area of the contemporary bass spectrum. Rather than simply reproducing the original arrangement, the remix provides a different interpretation of Bruss's rhythmic foundation, making the contrast between the two versions one of the useful features of the release.
Canta O AK, the EP's title track, brings the central concept into its clearest form. Brazilian rhythmic references, electronic low end and club-focused programming are combined into a track that sits comfortably between baile funk and house-oriented dance music. The production remains focused on movement rather than elaborate melodic development, making the groove itself the main compositional element.
Alvorada shifts the emphasis while retaining the record's rhythmic identity. The track demonstrates how the same combination of Brazilian percussion, bass pressure and electronic production can be pushed towards a more spacious club framework. It provides useful variation within a release that is otherwise deliberately concentrated around rhythm.
Juait's Alvorada remix completes the record with another interpretation of the source material. Across the two versions, the original and remix approach the same rhythmic foundation from different angles, reinforcing the EP's broader idea of connecting Brazilian musical references with contemporary European club production.
Canta O AK is also significant as the first catalogue release from Palmkids. The label is described as a creative duo and studio based in Pontevedra, Galicia, with its own production line and projects including PALMCO RADIO. The release emerged from the relationship between Palmkids and the Galician label Must Be On Wax, giving the record a clear connection to the region's independent electronic music scene.
The record's geographical context is important. Rather than presenting baile funk as an isolated stylistic reference, Bruss places its rhythmic language within a wider network of house, breaks, electro and bass music. That approach allows the Brazilian influence to remain central without turning the release into a purely retrospective exercise.
For DJs, PLMKDS001 offers six functional tools with different degrees of intensity. The original versions establish Bruss's core sound, while the Street Choice and Juait remixes provide alternative approaches for mixing and programming. The high-tempo rhythmic framework makes the record particularly suited to sets that move between breaks, bass, baile funk, electro and more percussive forms of house music.
Bruss – Canta O AK is ultimately a focused statement about rhythm, low end and cultural exchange. It takes the pulse of 1990s Brazilian baile funk and combines it with Miami bass influence and contemporary underground club production, resulting in a six-track 12-inch that feels equally connected to Brazil, Galicia and the wider international bass scene.
